Education, in its basic and superior levels, has been a priority Banco Popular Dominicano’s social contribution initiative. In this manner, it’s been developing an arduous labor for the quality improvement of the education offer nationwide, with the purpose of increasing the number of professionals that will latter on work in development areas for the country.

Adopt a future teacher

Asides from maintaining a relationship of patronage with educational centres such as Hogar Escuela Mercedes Amiama, secondary school Ramón Emilio Jiménez and the Escuela República de Panamá, or Obra Social y Cultural Sopeña (Oscus), Banco Popular has been developing labors in favor of improving the quality of the country’s educational offer to increase the number of leaders that will further on work in developmental areas for the country. In that same manner there is also collaboration with the programmes of Educa and Radio Santa María, institutions that dedicate their efforts to education at distance. Also, our institution signed in July 2005 a covenant with Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) through which it will financially sponsor the educational programme Adopt a Future Teacher!! , with the purpose of contributing to the formation of youth with teaching vocation, offering them quality education, with the goal of integrating them and contributing towards the improvement of the Dominican educational system. This program consists of offering scholarships to meritorious students- none older than 24 years of age-, with a GPA of 85, to commence their careers.

Loyola Polytechnic

In its line of assistance to entities that work towards the quality improvement of the nation’s educational offer, Banco Popular gave a special donation to the directive staff of Loyola Polytechnic, hereafter contributing to the preparation of hundreds of alumni that will latter on work in developmental fields for the country. In that same tenor the patronage to educational centres of different levels were maintained and the collaboration to teacher preparation programmes was continued to be carried out by EDUCA, one of the main organizations that work actively towards battling illiteracy.

Ramón Emilio Jimenez Secondary School

Banco Popular continued its traditional sponsorship to education by maintaining its programme of patronage to Ramón Emilio Jimenez Secondary School, being part of, for seven straight years, of the sponsoring team of EDUCA for elementary education, contributing for its 10th straight year to the savoir faire of Obra Social y Cultura Sopeña, of the Programme of Alliance for Excellence Fulbright LASPAU and for the 20th year of the Center for Family Integration.
